It still functioned as a clock - it still showed the time but personally I found the idea behind it. Unfortunately said clock is now in the bin, only ever to be used once, it woke me up, so I guess it meets the effectiveness criteria, unfortunately however the bit that 'flies' is made of flimsy plastic that snapped in two and became unusable. I was sent a link to what was referred to as the most annoying yet the most effective alarm clock ever, hmm, I guess i had to try it out. Anyway as an adult getting the kids to school on time and myself to meetings was becoming an habitual rush. I'm a heavy sleeper, people joke I'd sleep through an earthquake as I often sleep through phones ringing, alarm clocks the front door going etc, I guess it comes from sharing a room as a child with my hyper active sister who had a severe aversion to sleep. Suddenly a hot shower and a decent cuppa seems like a good idea. And ta-da! You're awake, and cursing bitterly under your breath. In so doing, of course, you're out of bed, searching the floor on your hands and knees in the dark, and perhaps even resorting to putting the light on. Leave it a second too late and you, your partner, chums and neighbours will know all about your laggardliness. Your challenge is to retrieve said key and dock it back on its base station before it goes off with the sound of the master alarm in a submarine that's just come under attack. On activation, the alarm clock device launches a whirling projectile into the air, a propeller-driven 'key' that briefly hovers before settling somewhere in your boudoir. Not unless you wish the very hounds of hell to descend upon your room. But with the flying alarm clock at your side, there's no risk of spending even a nanosecond longer in your bed than intended. But rousing you from your slumber is no easy task. It's 0545 and time you were on your way to that all-important client presentation in Leicester. Now behold that alarm clock that actually takes to the air. Alarm clocks that shake the very bed beneath you. Alarm clocks that go off like an incendiary bomb. Alarm clocks you can control with a wave of your hand. Goodness me, is that the time? At Gadgetshop HQ, we've seen alarm clocks that display. Probably need a 2.6.37 kernel or greater to run it (so EL5 is out of the question, for example). This uses a very recent system call API called fanotify. I've not ran it for long periods so wont guarantee its stability.
